- I've got a problem that I can't seem to get to the bottom of. Using
- my Supra Fax/Modem 288 and WinNT 3.51 I can not seem to get
- compression. The status screen in RAS says no compression and the
- leds on the Supra never give a DC indication. This works fine under
- Win95 and Dos using Telix, so I don't think it's either modem.
- I have tried changing settings in the modem.inf file in
- /winnt/system32/ras to only connect with compression, I've clicked the
- only connect with compression box in modem setup, I've entered AT
- commands manually, I've sacrificed a Sportster 144 to the modem gods,
- still no joy.
- On the off chance that it was just a status reporting problem, I
- downloaded the same group of files (executables) using both WinNT and
- Win95. I averaged about 3k/sec using NT, about 4.8 using 95, so I am
- obviously getting compression with 95.
- My system is a home-built P133 with a Diamond Steath 64 PCI video,
- Buslogic SCSI controller, Ensoniq sound card, and 64 Megs of RAM. I
- have duplicated this on my machine at work, a bare bones P100, and my
- laptop, a basic 486 (well, actually I can get compression with 95, it
- doesn't have enough RAM to run NT) so I don't think it's the fault of
- the computer.
- I am dialing into a bank of Supras that I did the setup for, and the
- problem persists dialing into MultiTechs and Zypcoms, which I also did
- the setup for.
- I have done everything I can think of and I'm still not getting
- compression. I'm wondering if this is a known bug in NT? I tried it
- with a beta of NTServer 4.0 and still had the same problem so I'm
- inclined to believe that M$ is at fault. If anyone has come up with a
- workaround for this, please post it here.
